New European distribution centre for Konica Minolta's printers and multifunctional products to be located in Emmerich

Langenhagen, Germany; December 2007

BLG Logistics, Konica Minolta's long-standing logistics service provider, will be relocating its operations for Konica Minolta from Bremen to Emmerich in north-western Germany from July of next year. This move is a response to the changing product distribution requirements brought about by Konica Minolta's organisational realignment. The relocation will also involve centralising the warehousing of all Konica Minolta printers, photocopiers and multifunctional products (MFPs).

Earlier this year, the Business Solutions and Printing Solutions divisions were merged under the umbrella of Konica Minolta Business Solutions, which is based in Langenhagen near Hannover. The aim of this new structure is to offer customers integrated, one-stop office solutions – from MFPs to laser printers and All-In-Ones.

This organisational realignment of Konica Minolta's European operations necessitated adjustments to its European supply chain structure and, consequently, to the way in which the company's long-standing logistics service provider operates. In line with the current separation of the two above-mentioned divisions, the warehouses for Konica Minolta printers and photocopiers have traditionally been located at different sites. In the future, all equipment will be stored at the central BLG Logistics warehouse in Emmerich. This includes Konica Minolta's bizhubs as well as its magicolors and pagepros. From July 2008, all Konica Minolta products for the European market will be distributed from here. Two key locational advantages of the new logistics centre are its good transport links and its proximity to Rotterdam, Europe's largest port.

The new central warehouse and product distribution centre are planned to cover an area of some 60,000 square metres. They will be built by an investor, who will subsequently let them to BLG Logistics. BLG estimates that its long-term commitment to the new site will create roughly 200 new logistics-related jobs.

"This new European distribution centre represents a key stage in the process following the merger of the two divisions,“ stressed Masahiko Makimoto from Konica Minolta Business Solutions. "It will enable us to respond more swiftly and flexibly in delivering solutions to our dealers, partners and customers."
